Chase Swivel Counter Stools

Chase Swivel Counter Stools

Some designs are ephemeral, lasting only a few months, or a year at best, while others seem to transcend time, lasting across generations. The wrought iron design definitely belongs to the latter. The term “wrought iron” often brings confusion. It originally referred to the metal that contains large amounts of iron silicate that made it strong under tensile pressure, corrosion-resistant, and malleable. These features allowed the iron to be twisted into scrolls and curlicues. Eventually, the name of the iron was also applied to the design. It is in this sense that “wrought iron” is applied to modern furniture decorated with scrolls and twisted metal bars, even if they are actually made of other kinds of metal. The Chase Swivel Counter Stools belong to this group.

The Chase stools come right out of the Renaissance, a time of cultural and intellectual rebirth that led to the Modern era. In place of splats or spindles, the backrest consists of four pieces of scrolled metal bars firmly anchored to the stiles and the rails. The seat is round, propped by an apron made of two metal rings. In between the rings are metal scrolls matching those at the backrest.

Four twin metal bars affixed to the apron bulge out slightly in an “S” as they reach for the floor. The twin bars merge above the point where they are welded to the stretcher that also serves as a footrest. The footrest is round, matching the rings of the apron.

All metals are finished in shiny black, complementing the textured fabric of the seat, which is either in black or tan at your option. The seat is cushioned with thick foam, thus providing comfortable seating. It swivels up to 360° for ease of getting on or off the stool.

The seat measures 20 inches in diameter with a height of 24. Back height is 14 inches, while overall height is 40.
